WTF?

I wake up to a stream running through our back yard, as well as a river raging down our street. This weather is insane and it doesn't look like it's about to stop any time soon. I'm telling you, this planet is about ready to swallow us whole. Sometimes I think that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Like Smith said in The Matrix:

"I'd like to share with you a revelation I've had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren't actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague..."

To add to my jovial mood, I heard the oddest sound a few minutes ago. It was an air raid siren. You know, the kind that starts slow and builds into a high-pitched wail? I have no idea where it was coming from, but it ended after 2 or 3 minutes. Anyone local know something about this area that I don't? (FYI- Westover is about 20 minutes from my place, so I doubt it was coming from there).

In other news... I can finally stop using the silly nickname "Crusader" for my friend Marc Adams and share with you all that I am officially a board member of HeartStrong! HeartStrong is a non sectarian organization established to provide outreach to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and other persons adversely affected by the influence of all denominations of religious educational institutions. HeartStrong is also committed to educating the public about the persecution of GLBT’s and others at religious educational institutions. You can learn more at: http://www.heartstrong.org/

The best part is that the annual board meeting is being held in Miami this year. So I get to pack my bags for a few days in April and head to the sun and surf. And Kat's coming, too! We scheduled the flights so we'd get a little bit of time to check out the local scene and enjoy the beach. God, it's been so long since I've felt sand between my toes or smelled that salty air. I can't wait!
