Why do people send me this crap???( Grrr cubed )
Maybe listening to talk radio all the time isn't such a good idea...
Feel like having a steak? Yeah...
Carbon monoxide is used in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) as a technique for maintaining food quality. By altering the atmospheric conditions within the package, products can have a longer shelf life.
However, carbon monoxide also makes meat appear fresher than it actually is by reacting with the meat pigment myoglobin to create carboxymyoglobin, a bright red pigment that masks any of the natural aging and spoilage of meats.
Here's the article if you want to read the whole story.
And now I'm off to cook my Tofurky for dinner!

Poetry and War
Jul. 2nd, 2007 06:06 pmThe U.S. army said Friday it would apologize to the families of about 75 officers killed in action who were mistakenly sent letters urging them to return to active duty. --January 5, 2007 WASHINGTON (AP)
Will the dead please rise and raise
your right hands. Will the dead please
swear to uphold that hand for as long
as it takes. Will the dead please
reassemble your bones, replace
your heads, return your hearts, recant
your screams. Will the dead please
salute the flag flapping like tattooed skin
ripped from the body politic. Will the dead
please step onto the helicopters and into
the bodies of soldiers about to become you.
Give the living your history, your wisdom,
your sleepless eternities, your missteps
only they can make right, remind them
nightly to go on living. Will the dead
please buckle up and bring them home.

Insanity in Health Care
Jun. 15th, 2007 09:15 amThis is one of the most disgusting things I've heard lately...
Woman Dies in L.A. Emergency Room Waiting Area
And if the article isn't enough to piss you off, try checking out the audio of the TWO 9-1-1 calls made by her boyfriend and by another person in the ER waiting area:
1st Call
2nd Call (This one gets really interesting around the 1:00 mark)
As if I wasn't worried enough about having to be seen in an ER....

May. 29th, 2007 03:35 pmHere's one more reason I love living in Western Mass...
(The video gets *really* good around the 2:38 mark, but it's all worth watching!)
For those of you who would rather read about it (although the video is SO much more entertaining), here's a link:
Former Bush aide Card is booed at UMass. If you read the article, it mentions that "The protests were mainly contained to an area in the back of the campus arena, though many of the faculty members onstage joined the three- to four- minute outburst." As you can see from the video, that was clearly not the case.
And, as quoted on the Wikipedia page about Card,
"In 2007, Card received an honorary degree in public service from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The decision by the university administration to give Card the degree was met with protests and petitions from thousands of university students, faculty, staff, and community members. They argued that Card played a leading role in disseminating deceptive and misleading evidence to justify the Iraq War. At the May 25, 2007 graduate school commencement ceremony, hundreds of students, faculty, and staff protested the award with boos and catcalls as Andrew Card accepted the degree. Protesters, including many faculty on stage, drowned out Provost Charlena Seymour's remarks, asserting that Card lied about the Iraq war."

Oh... My...
Mar. 26th, 2007 05:26 pmShould I be as amused by this as I am? Ah, we all know I'm already destined for h-e-double hockey sticks. Enjoy!
