Trans Ordinance
Dec. 16th, 2005 10:25 amGot this email, thought I should share it... Please feel free to do a happy
dance like I am doing....
WE DID IT! I just got back from the Northampton, MA City Council meeting
and the council voted unanimously this evening (12/15/05) to add "gender
identity or expression" to the city-wide anti-discrimination ordinance. This
means that we are now protected in housing, employment, public
accomodations, education, and city work contracts. We are now safer to be
completely OUT.
More information is to come from Susan Geary who, along with Cole Thayler,
are the trans leadership who got this done for us all! Let the history books
show that these two amazing people moved our whole community forward!
Northampton is now the third city in Massachusetts - along with Boston and
Cambridge - to have all-encompassing anti-discrimination protection for
transpeople, gender queers, and all who present or identify gender
differently. Next .... on to state-wide protection, which the Northampton
city council members stated they will get behind in any way they can.
What a great present for our community for the New Year!
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!
